Albeit, it may be carried out for a group of executives, each one is done individually and there is no “cross-pollination” between them.

We develop a relationship that gives the Mentoree (executive) the assurance that whatever is discussed is not shared with anybody else. This is an important and vital difference with Coaching where the collaboration of the immediate manager is very important.
Mentoring has to be carried out in an individual manner. It seeks to provide a safe environment where the Mentoree (executive) shares whatever personal or workplace issues affect his or her professional success. Mentoring, to be successful, requires time in which both, the Mentor and the Mentoree, can learn about one another and build a climate of trust. This trust is essential to generate an environment in which the Mentoree feels secure, in sharing those profound issues.

Because of the very nature of this process, the immediate manager may offer suggestions to the executive on how to best use the mentoring experience. However, the manager has no link to the Mentor and they do not communicate at all, during the Mentoring relationship. This helps maintain the mentoring relationship’s integrity.
